Data to the Rescue

Innovation
   By Kevin Hogan

New software tools may improve communication during catastrophic events.

When there’s a major catastrophe, whether it’s a terrorist attack or an earthquake, reliable information can be as vital as blood supplies.

To aid emergency workers, a team from the State University of New York at Buffalo is developing software tools that should make getting that information—and making sense out of it—much easier.

Reinforces "Operation Dark Winter"

Requires "PSWN & Wireless Protection"

Geographically-dispersed devices; each device with a url;
Use *SurfGear* for scanning across URLs (devices)
to (help operators) identify patterns or exceptions.

FYI - This supports evolving GIS & GPS-based
applications of Seattle "Scenario Spinning" Art!

Maybe a remote Digital Neighborhood Watch?

""But even more pertinent in the post-September 11 era,
the package of video-processing and 3-D modeling technologies
delivering these tricks promises to set a new standard
for *surveillance and security systems* — and
bring new meaning to the term “reality programming.”

WSDOT Excerpts:
Welcome to the "Puget Sound Area Traffic Cameras" website,
brought to you by Washington State Department of Transportation.

This page provides access to both *snapshots and video clips* from many
of the cameras located along the major freeways in the Puget Sound area.

Ahoy "MSP-InfraGard" Inter-Regional Collaborators -

My sharing of appended UH-Manoa "insights" was
prompted by US District Attorney Tom Hefflefinger's
remarks about *porous nature* of Minnesota's northern
    border at www.rawlings-afa.org Symposium yesterday.

These insights were enhanced by further F2F discussions
with UTSA's Gregory White/PhD about adapting
    "Operation Dark Winter" Bio-Terrorism scenarios
    for *Community Impact Assessment Workshops*

Also attached are self-directed www.MnFuturists.org
trends I've tracked for tech-transfer opportunities!
