KEN HINCKLEY
: All right, so a lot of people are thinking about what is going to be the future of multiple devices, and I would be one of those people.
And one of the questions that people ask is, you know, well maybe if we had the ultimate smart computer, that would be the way to go.
And so I've been thinking about that problem.
... upside down or red or something, we're going to in the future find it ...

Subject: Future Research & Forecast SIG
Dear fellow futurists:
During the upcoming Saturday Future SIG we will be doing what we do best: futuring, systematic conjecture and applying anticipatory science practices. Futurists know better than most people that the future is not predictable. Mostly because of unforeseen and unintended consequences, and also because of free will. What we do is try to suggest things that might happen in the future, so that people can decide what they want to make happen. Once the possibilities are identified, we can try to make the desired possibilities become realities and prevent the undesired possibilities from ever being realized.
Saturday's focus will be on driving forces, forecasts, and "wild cards" for the year 2010, including a forecast discussion for 2003 and 2025. We are asking for your forecasting prowess. This Saturday's SIG will be highly participatory to encourage a full range of available perspectives on critical issues. The future we create is dependent not only on the quality of our vision but also on the information available and how information about alternatives and choices are communicated to all stakeholders.
Bruce Glasrud and myself, will compile this research and extrapolate portions of the data in a press release to the media. If you can not attend this Saturday, please Email me with your forecasts along with your name and any other comments you have. Your forecasts‹along with your name if you give permission‹will be listed in the updated Minnesota Futurist Website slated for January.
Please be on time as we will start promptly at 9:30 a.m., and be prepared, preferably with your ideas in writing for collection. Please bring flip charts if you have them. We will utilize the full meeting for this process.
