Let’s Make 2005 a Recycling Year

Text Box: Many of you have recycle bins that you set out each week for a local recycler to pick up,

but what about those items that are not accepted by the recycler?

Glass is not profitable for recyclers, but still needs to be recycled. CLO gives us a place to do that.

Here are places to recycle some items that aren’t allowed in your home bin:

Unity Church of Overland Park:

newspapers, magazines, office and school papers and shopping catalogues.

Community Living Opportunities, 6900 W. 80th (Just off Metcalf at 80th):

plastic, glass bottles, cardboard, cans, office paper, magazines, newspapers

and aluminum. (Recycling here provides funds to help adults and children

with severe developmental disabilities.)

Overland Photo Supply, 8967 Metcalf, 913-648-5950
takes the camera batteries
(These are especially harmful to the environment.)

Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 4701 Deramus, KC, MO, 816-231-6889:
new
or used building materials.

SprintPCS Shawnee, 15150 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Space L, 913-962-7777:

cell phones (they may even pay you! )

Inkjet and laser cartridges: can be sold to a number of recycle centers online.

Most electronic consumers in the United States do not realize the effects that
e-waste has on our environment once these products reach the end of their working life.

Today most companies, organizations and common households

put electronics out with regular garbage for dumping in the local landfill.

Note: It is illegal to dump monitors or TV’s in the trash because of the lead content.
