The Shawnee on the reserve number 886, of whom 63 are educated or at least literate. Twelve individuals are of African descent, including the slaves owned by Captain Joseph Parks. The Shawnee have 2,965.5 acres under cultivation, 1,348 horses, 461 oxen, 492 milch cows, 1,048 head of cattle, over 3,500 hogs, $4,500 in agricultural implements, an agricultural output with an estimated value for 1847 of $32,386, and $5,500 invested in trade for the year.

Their public improvement list is impressive, with 1 council house, 3 mission houses, 3 schoolhouses, 2 churches, 1 saw mill, 1 grist mill, and 3 public ferries. The Shawnee annuity is currently $4,500.

The Eastern I70 Chapter of KAWS will be holding it’s next meeting on January 9th at the Golf Course Superintendents Assoc of America . The meeting will begin at 1 pm and should be over by 3:30 pm. The topics of discussion will include:
 

-         Review minutes of the last meeting

-         WRAPS update – Update on statewide WRAPS application and information, Middle Kansas WRAPS, Wakarusa WRAPS and Lower Kansas WRAPS

-         Web Service Update – update on new additions and potential training opportunities

-         Chapter projects – discussion on approved and new projects in process

-         Discussion on Watershed Improvement Grant approved for Delaware and Fall River Watersheds

-         Habitat Team Formation in 3 Rivers Chapter area –  Is there potential for the I70 Chapter area?

-         KDWP Upland Bird Initiative – funds available to do upland bird habitat in northeast Kansas

-         Farm Bill – Update on budget concerns and potential MOU with NRCS for training and technical assistance, WRP needs more applications

-         Update on other KAWS activities – New staff for Project Coordinator, upcoming meetings, etc

-         Partner updates – new items from chapter members

-         Next meeting date and location
