CyberTerrorism

   

An unauthorized or illegal incursion into a computing system that alters files or data in order to cause damage by some other means.

Air traffic control often gets cited to explain cyberterrorism scenarios in which the system's resources are altered or disabled to cause errors or malfunctions. See

Overview

This course is designed for IT managers, executives, network and system administrators, and other IT professionals who need to develop a working knowledge and vocabulary to help assess their organization's risks from hackers or cyber terrorists.

This course surveys both key terms and concepts necessary to enable effective enterprise information security. It also covers the motives, opportunities and methods most often used to break into networks and essential enterprise databases. Learners will become familiar with basic steps used by these attackers. This course provides you with a framework for assessing an organization's primary risks from cyber attacks and for creating a prioritized action plan.

A follow-on course will present strategies and countermeasures for the various enterprise cyber threats!

Learning Goals

- Be able to describe the key terms and concepts associated
with hacking and cyberterrorism.

- Develop a working knowledge of the most destructive
hacker tools, tactics, and "digital disruption" scenarios.

- Be able to compare and contrast the various types
of cyber threats and identify examples of each threat type.

- Gain an understanding of the characteristics of hackers and Cyberterrorists.

- Gain a realistic understanding of the extent of the problem and the impact
to society, organizations, and individuals.

- Assess the security risks for a fictitious organization and create a prioritized
action plan (describing "what" needs to be done to reduce risks).
